Release Types

Major Releases (X.0.0)

Major releases include breaking changes and significant new features. These may require code updates to maintain compatibility.

Minor Releases (0.X.0)

Minor releases add new features in a backward-compatible manner. Existing code should continue to work without changes.

Patch Releases (0.0.X)

Patch releases include bug fixes and minor improvements. These are always backward-compatible.

Release Schedule

We aim to release updates on a regular schedule:

  • Major releases: Every 6 months
  • Minor releases: Every 2-4 weeks
  • Patch releases: As needed for critical fixes

Before a Release

  • Update version numbers
  • Create new changelog file
  • Run full test suite
  • Update documentation
  • Create release notes

Release Process

  1. Create release branch from main
  2. Update version in package.json
  3. Create new changelog file for the release
  4. Run tests and build verification
  5. Create GitHub release
  6. Publish to npm
  7. Update documentation
